Oil Pastel

Portrait

My piece depicts a young boy who looks sad. The most obvious element is value. The most obvious principle is contrast.

To create this piece I started by putting grid lines throughout my paper. The second thing I did was began mapping out my drawing. The third step I used a lighter pencil to shade (6H).

My inspiration for this piece was to see my growth within three years from my 8th grade year to my junior year. The emotion I tried to convey was a young boy who look unhappy.

My goal as an artist was to become better and improve on a portrait that I knew i could be successful doing. I did reach my goal because I felt that it looks just like the picture I was drawing from and I know that I've improved on some aspects of my portrait.

by creating this piece I learned that no matter how good you can draw there's always room for improvement. Overall I did like this piece because i can see my improvement and some things I could work on to get better. i will use what I learned on this piece for future works because it helped me make my portrait look realistic.
